EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY – Summer Ag. Services Agricultural Laborer

We are seeking Agricultural Laborers to join the Agriculture Services team; this position performs vegetation management activities which include manual brushing and mowing roadsides. May also assist with maintenance of public properties.   Hours of work – 40 hours per week (some overtime may be required)

Responsibilities

  • Mowing of Municipal road allowances, reserve lands, and green spaces
  • Operate tractors, roadside disc mowers, UTVs, sprayers, and various hand tools in a safe and efficient manner
  • Monitor, maintain, and service equipment to meet operating standards
  • Perform manual tasks as required by the Agricultural Services department
  • Ensure completion of assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision
  • Work with confidential and sensitive information

Skills and Abilities

  • Effective customer service, public relations and communication skills (verbal and written) to work with diverse groups of individuals and the ability to deal with residents in challenging situations
  • Willingness and ability to work in inclement weather and remote rural areas
  • An understanding of current agricultural practices
  • Previous experience operating agricultural equipment is an asset
  • Able to work alone, under minimal supervision

Qualifications

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent education
  • Two years related experience is preferred
  • Current Standard First Aid certification is an asset
  • Pesticide Applicator’s Certificate would be an asset, or eligible Herbicide Application Authorized Assistant certificate
  • Understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) Regulations and Code, follow safety guidelines, identify hazardous situations and perform corrective actions
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Operators License with less than five demerits; use of personal vehicle is required
  • Ability to perform physical tasks that may include lifting objects up to 25 kgs in weight, standing, bending, and shoveling, pulling
  • Perform work outdoors in varied terrain and in all weather conditions
