EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY – Summer Ag. Services Park Maintenance

We are seeking Park Maintenance Laborer(s) to join the Agriculture Services team; this position performs vegetation management activities which include mowing grass, painting, cleaning of facilities, garbage collection, manual and/or mechanical weed control. May also assist with special event preparation.

Hours of work – 40 hours per week (some overtime may be required)

Responsibilities

  • Mowing of Municipal parks, green spaces and reserve lands
  • Operate self-propelled equipment including trucks, trailers, tractors, mowers, weed trimmers and various hand tools in a safe and efficient manner
  • Monitor, maintain, and service equipment to meet operating standards
  • Perform manual tasks as required by the Agricultural Services department
  • Ensure completion of assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision

Skills and Abilities

  • Effective customer service, public relations and communication skills (verbal and written) to work with diverse groups of individuals and the ability to deal with residents in challenging situations
  • Willingness and ability to work in inclement weather and remote rural areas
  • Previous experience operating zero turn mowers is an asset
  • Able to work alone or with a team, under minimal supervision

Qualifications

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent education
  • Two years related experience is preferred
  • Current Standard First Aid certification is an asset
  • Understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) Regulations and Code, follow safety guidelines, identify hazardous situations and perform corrective actions
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Operators License with less than five demerits; use of personal vehicle is required
  • Ability to perform physical tasks that may include lifting objects up to 25 kgs in weight, standing, bending, and shoveling, pulling, twisting
  • Perform work outdoors in varied terrain and in all weather conditions
