Information Sessions: Alberta’s brine-hosted minerals development

On November 4, 2021, the Government of Alberta released the Minerals Strategy and Action Plan and introduced Bill 82, the Mineral Resource Development Act, which sets the groundwork for modernizing Alberta’s regulatory approach for the responsible development of the province’s mineral resources, along with establishing the Alberta Energy Regulator as the full-lifecycle regulator for these resources.

Mineral exploration and development is fast changing and companies are looking to extract and produce brine-hosted minerals, which are typically found in underground saltwater and are mostly extracted through well infrastructure.

The Government of Alberta is hosting two virtual information sessions on the implementation of brine-hosted mineral development as part of Bill 82: Mineral Resource Development Act, including the modernization of Alberta’s Metallic and Industrial Mineral Tenure framework. Albertans are invited to register to learn about how the upcoming changes may affect landowners and occupants. There will be an opportunity for questions following each information session.

The sessions will be hosted by the Government of Alberta and the Alberta Energy Regulator, in partnership with the Farmers’ Advocate Office and the Property Rights Advocate Office.

The same information will be presented at both sessions. Register for one of the sessions.
