Nestled in a small, close-knit community, Armena offers a welcoming rural lifestyle with strong community spirit and room to grow.
Armena is about 20 kilometres northwest of Camrose and 12 km from the Village of Hay Lakes on Highway 21. It is home to just under 50 people.
One of the first Scandanavian settlements in Alberta, Armena was originally named Thordenskold, after Peter Thordenskold, a famous sailor in Norway.
In 1915, the Canadian Northern Railway went through Thordenskold, but thought the name was difficult to spell and pronounce. Shortly after, the settlement was renamed as Armena.
The small community is home to the Armena Athletic Association, an active recreation board that operates the Armena Skate Shack and ball diamonds. The community is also home to a Maplewood Acres Market Garden and Greenhouse and historical Lutheran Churches.
The area is known as a prime location for snowmobiling and Cross-country skiing.
