The RHRAF, in partnership with Round Hill School (K–Grade 9), is developing an innovative agricultural learning program, the “Foodscape Project,” to teach students while creating a sustainable food source for the community.

To date, they have planted a food forest and shelterbelt, established a community garden, and launched composting and water-capture initiatives. They have also built original “binzebos” and support local agriculture by purchasing food from nearby farms and businesses. Through these activities, students gain hands-on experience in financial management and help prepare twice-monthly community meals.

The hamlet received its name from the geographical feature, the round hill near the settlement that provided settlers with a bird’s eye view of the area around them. Originally, the settlement was named Round Lake, to pay tribute to the lake that was at the bottom of the hill. However, because the lake often disappeared in dry years, Round Hill was a more appropriate name.
