BATTLE RIVER VALLEY

For centuries, the Battle River Valley was an important travel, hunting, and gathering corridor for Indigenous peoples, including the Plains Cree and Blackfoot, with the river often serving as a natural boundary between territories. In the late 1800s, Métis and early European settlers established river-lot homesteads and trading points along the valley, drawn by reliable water, timber, and rich soils.
